Mr. Brancaccio is the host and senior editor of NOW, an award-winning television newsmagazine on PBS, which focuses on human rights, national security, healthcare, the environment, and science policy. Mr. Brancaccio’s career covers three decades in television, radio, and print journalism. In 1989, he became a contributor to the public radio program Marketplace, and he became senior editor and host of the program in 1993. From 2002-2003, he hosted the California public television series California Connected, and in 2003 he started his work with NOW. Along with his work in public television, Mr. Brancaccio is also a contributor to a variety of broadcast and print publications, including CNN, MSNBC, The Wall Street Journal, the Baltimore Sun, and Psychology Today, and has conducted many interviews, including the final long-form interview conducted with author Kurt Vonnegut, in 2005. A successful author, Mr. Brancaccio’s 2000 book Squandering Aimlessly detailed his odyssey across America, during which he spoke with Americans about money and values.

He earned a B.A. in African Studies and history from Wesleyan University in 1982, and a M.A. in journalism from Stanford University in 1988. Over the course of his career, Mr. Brancaccio has won several prestigious awards, including the George Foster Peabody Award for excellence in radio and television broadcasting in 2001, and the Walter Cronkite Award for excellence in television political coverage in 2009.

In his lecture, Mr. Brancaccio will speak about his travels these past few months, meeting with the people at the sharp end of the economic crisis, as well as the leading economic minds who can lead us forward.
